A few tips that will help you in keeping your internet bills minimum.
Never leave your USB modem plugged into your computer and connected to the internet. If you are not going to be on your desk for more than 15 min, click on “disconnect” and then leave.
Watch out for P2P and torrent applications or programs. If installed make sure that they are not running in the background if you are not downloading or uploading data. These programs share files and data between users around the world. Common programs or applications are Lime wire, Bit torrent, Utorrent and many others.
If your computer is new it will require a lot of updates from your OS provider like Microsoft, Mac, Linux etc. Make sure that you are aware of your update system.
Do not use your USB modem on a router if you are the only internet user. If you do use it on a router make sure that you do not share the internet key of your router with any unauthorized person.
Make sure that you keep track of your internet usage with your internet service provider. Most service providers have a web self care system in place to keep you updated of your usage. Make sure that you make good use of this service.
Make sure that you choose a right plan according to your usage. It’s not a bad idea to go in for a higher plan, know your usage and downgrade later if it is more than what you require. Choosing a lower plan and then moving higher can be costly as you may end up with a high bill if exceeded.
