Tips to resolve poor internet speed.Many a times we face poor internet speed on our computers while using our USB modem. There could be various reasons for poor internet speed. Here are a few tips on how to tackle poor speed. Keep your temp internet files in check. Delete it from time to time. Delete Temp Internet Files on IE 6 Click “Tools” and select “Internet Options” under the general tab select “Delete Files” on the popup you could also tick the box “delete all offline files” and click “Ok”. Delete Temp Internet Files on IE 7 Click “Tools” and select “Internet Options” under the general tab click the “Delete” button. You will see list of categories to delete like temp internet files, cookies, history, passwords, delete all etc. delete the temp files or each of the categories or select delete all.( delete all will delete all of the above categories) Delete Temp Internet Files on Firefox Click on tools and select “Clear Private Data” Delete Temp Files on Safari Click on safari menu and click “Empty Cache” and when the dialog box opens click “Empty” Always restart the computer after deleting the temp files on your computer. On a windows OS try adding strings AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”accesspoint” where “accesspoint” is the APN which your service provider uses to connect you to the internet (If not sure about the access point contact your service provider). Access points or APN can also be found in the profile that is been created in the s/w you use to connect to the internet. (Mainly called “settings” or “tools”) How to add a String on windows OS: To add this string, go to Control Panel and open Device Manager. Switch to classic view (in windows vista you will find device manager as one of the icons in the list) (in windows XP you will have to open “System” and then go to the “Hardware” tab, you will find device manager as one of the buttons) go to Modems and click on the “+” symbol. It will expand and you will see all the modems plugged to your computer. One from the list is the USB modem. Double click and open the USB Modem driver and go to the Advance Tab and you will find a box which says Extra Initialization Command. Enter the above string in the box and click ok. (we have screenshots on how to add strings to help you.) If your USB modem came with a USB cable try using the USB cable. If you are already using one try connecting directly without the cable. (There may be some USB modems that cannot be connected without the USB cable; in this scenario in some cases the manufacture provides more than one cable try the other cable and check if the speed improves. There are various websites which help you to test your internet speed. Go on to one of these websites and test your internet speed. Some of these websites may require certain add-on like “flash player” for your browser to function on their site or to do the test. Check for these requirements on these websites. Try disabling the firewall of your antivirus (leaving the firewall disabled can leave your computer open to viruses and hackers and other various treats) if you find that by disabling your firewall of your antivirus fixes the speed issue, turn on the firewall and contact your antivirus support for help.
